| MIAMI BEACH, FL. USA-(28-1-2003) The 2003 Acura SORC, to be raced off Miami Beach, February 26 – March 2, 2003, has released its schedule of events for the 62nd edition of the South Florida winter ocean racing classic.
The regatta will kick-off Wednesday, February 26, when skippers and crew in the Farr 40, IMS and PHRF classes register and weigh-in in the Sailing World Race Village at Miami Beach Marina from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Also on Wednesday, the 3rd annual Acura SORC Pro-Am Regatta, hosted by the Farr 40 class, will take place from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM with the Welcome Reception for all competitors in the Sailing World Race Village to follow from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The first day of the 2003 Acura SORC concludes with a Skippers Meeting for those competing in the Farr 40, IMS and PHRF classes.
On Thursday, the Farr 40, IMS and PHRF classes begin racing at 10:00 AM. Meanwhile, skippers and crew in the Mumm 30, J/105, Melges 24 and Multihulls classes will register and weigh-in in the Sailing World Race Village. At 5:00 PM, or one hour after the conclusion of racing (applicable each day), Happy Hour will commence in the Sailing World Race Village, wrapping up at 7:00 PM. At 5:30 PM the 2003 Acura SORC’s first daily awards will be presented, along with video highlights from the day’s action on the water, provided by Acura and produced by T2 Productions, in the Sailing World Race Village to be follwed by a Skippers Meeting for the Mumm 30, J/105, Melges 24 and Multihull classes.
Friday features a full slate of racing for all classes beginning at 10:00 AM. Friday’s post-racing activities will be held at the Gosling’s Black Seal “Bermuda Triangle Party,” at South Beach’s famed Clevelander nightclub. Food, drink specials and video highlights from the day’s racing guarantee that it will be a memorable evening!
Saturday racing begins at 10:00 AM for all classes. Happy Hour once again will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Sailing World Race Village, with both Friday's and Saturday’s Daily Awards being presented at 6:00 PM.
The 2003 Acura SORC conlcudes on Sunday, March 2, with racing for all classes from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The Final Awards Party will be held in Monty’s Restaurant with a presentation of the Daily and Overall Awards to be followed by a buffet and drinks as the regatta winds to a close.
All activities fees are included in the 2003 Acura SORC entry fee – wrist bands will be distributed to competitors at registration, ensuring entry into all hospitality functions. Additional wrist bands, at the price of $50 each, can be purchased in the Sailing World Race Village.
